How much is too much? When does sharing become oversharing online?

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a producer from the Today Show who was looking for a mum to come on their show and discuss ‘sharing and when it becomes oversharing’. Considering I was Melbourne based and they needed someone in Sydney, unfortunately it didn’t end up happening but it got me thinking big time! To be honest, it is already something I think about often as a blogger. Will my kids love me or hate me for everything I share with you guys through my blog and social media, or will they be indifferent to it as it’s just becoming the way of the world? The whole family in bed on a Sunday morning!!

When I started my blog, I really started with a focus on dogs and educating the world about finding the right dog for them as well as looking after and raising a puppy into adulthood. Then as I become a mum, I wanted to educate parents and children on the safe interactions between kids and dogs, and helping people to read a dogs body language and warning signs. As my blog evolved over time, I began to get gain quite a strong following when it comes to all things mum-life, kids and pregnancy. These stories are highly personal in nature but I’ve always found sharing these personal experiences as the best way to help my readers out… However, with this approach I am constantly asking myself “when is it considered too much?”

All things MUM-LIFE!

As a blogger, I aim to help others through my experiences and if that means sharing my personal life, so be it. However, I would never share anything at the detriment to my kids or my husband. My kids, my hubby and my dog are my world, they are my number one before my readers (sorry guys!) so I will ALWAYS put them first. If I think something would upset them, embarrass them or offend them now or later in life, then that’s the stuff I choose to keep to myself.

A rare moment when everyone is looking at the camera!

I really do like the idea of keeping it real, being raw and honest and showing my readers the ups and downs of parenting and raising kids and dogs together. I don’t sugar coat it and pretend like we’re doing amazing here, because trust me, we have shitty days too, just like everyone else! But there are some things, that Jase and I have discussed, that we prefer to keep to ourselves and that’s where we draw the line. And those are the things that we do not share on my blog and social media.
